“Invisible threads are the strongest ties.”
Friedrich Nietzsche
It takes courage to grow old. Those, to whom fate is generous, stitch their pattern on the fabric of life and weave threads through space and time.
Clotho spins the threads. Some coarse and undyed, others fine and delicately imbued with hue, these threads are used to assemble the display. As they are selected, Lachesis sees the stories revealed. Hardship and disappointment, gratitude and delight, isolation and community, love and lives lost and found, the cycles of despair and hope. These are the vibrant messages reflected in the work. Each soul to the degree of their skill and means, adding pearls and sequins; fibers spun from precious memories. Needle and thread argue, interrupting the stories and patterns. Then there are bountiful times when there is so much to capture. Shapes and figures appear to leap onto the fabric of their own volition.
The privilege of growing older gifts each one of us the opportunity to leave a unique design on the fabric of life. Guided by circumstance and choice, some leave ornate designs, others austere motifs. What will you choose to embroider in your time before Atropos seizes the sharpest pair scissors?
